Ketamine is a safe drug. However, not all patients are ideal candidates. Please contact us for an initial screening evaluation so we can learn about your medical history.
No, we can screen you, but you need an established diagnosis by a mental health or pain provider.
Always!!! Many clinics make this compromise, but we never will. The gold standard for the safe administration of ketamine is an anesthesiologist, and one will always be closely monitoring every infusion you have.
Like with any medication, allergic reactions are possible. Most people report feeling tired after the infusion, but this will go away the next day. You may experience nausea. We can treat this with anti-nausea medications. If you suffer from severe nausea, we can pre-treat you with medications before starting your infusion. Ketamine can also cause a mild increase in your heart rate and blood pressure, but this is not dangerous and similar to going up a flight of stairs.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has placed Ketamine on the list of the
most essential medications, due to its benefits and wide margin of safety. Unlike other anesthesia or pain medications that decrease basic functions such as breathing and blood pressure, Ketamine preserves breathing, while stimulating heart rate and blood pressure. Research shows that Ketamine used in small
doses via IV infusion does not lead to long-term side effects.
This depends on what condition we are treating. We recommend 6 treatments
over 2 to 3 weeks initially and then monthly maintenance infusions for mood disorders. For
pain conditions we recommend 3 to 10 infusions.
